Guinea Bissau: village life : The remote village of Dembel Jumpora in the West African country of Guinea Bissau may appear as if villagers have nothing. There is no easy access to clean water, no electricity, no cars, no medicines, no phones. Yet beyond the beaten orange paths, there exists a world which is different but rich with culture and life. On my last evening, one of the children, Alio, wanted to know everything about America and he innocently pointed up to the sky and looked at this big beautiful full moon and asked me if we had a moon in America. It seemed so symbolic and touching that he should feel like America was a separate world, and serves as a constant reminder that we are all tied together in an intricate web, whether we believe it or not.
